Candidates must have five years of on-the-job experience in one or more areas of the CMDA Body of Knowledge. At least one year of this experience must be in a decision-making position. The CMDA exam covers the six major areas of the Body of Knowledge: Auditing Fundamentals; Auditing and Inspection Processes; Medical Device Quality Management System Requirements (including FDA 21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, EU MDR, and MDSAP); Quality Tools and Techniques; Management and Personnel; and Product and Process Controls (including Design Controls and Production and Process Controls).
The ASQ Certified Medical Device Auditor (CMDA) certification is valid for three years. To maintain certification, you must either retake the exam or earn 18 recertification units (RUs) through professional development activities.
The CMDA exam is a one-part, multiple-choice question exam. It is available in both computer-delivered and paper-and-pencil formats. All examinations are open book, and candidates must bring their own reference materials.
