The IAPP Privacy Law Specialist (PLS) certification is an esteemed accreditation specifically designed for licensed attorneys in the U.S., signifying a high level of expertise and ethical grounding in the complex field of privacy law. This professional credential, accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA), is the first and only designation of its kind to verify a U.S. lawyer’s experience and knowledge in this rapidly evolving area. Achieving PLS status demonstrates substantial involvement in privacy law practice, covering key knowledge areas such as safeguarding information, fee sharing, advertising, conflict of interest, professional independence, unauthorized practice of law, client communication, evidence and privilege, competence, and candor. The certification is a testament to a professional’s commitment to staying current with U.S. state and federal privacy laws and regulations, technology, and emerging developments. The target audience for this certification includes attorneys seeking to specialize and be recognized as experts in privacy law, offering significant career benefits and advancement opportunities by setting them apart in a competitive legal landscape.
To attain the IAPP PLS certification, candidates must meet stringent requirements, including holding current IAPP CIPP/US and either CIPM or CIPT certifications, demonstrating substantial privacy law practice experience, completing continuing legal education, and obtaining peer references. A crucial component of the certification process is passing the IAPP PLS Ethics Exam, which assesses knowledge of model rules of professional conduct relevant to privacy law. For those preparing for this challenging exam, it’s vital to focus on comprehensive study materials rather than relying on unreliable brain dumps, as exam questions are subject to change, and the information in dumps may be inaccurate, leading to potential failure. The exam can be taken conveniently online through online proctoring, allowing candidates to complete the exam from home, or at a physical testing center.
